Homebuyer Education

Headwaters RC&D Area, Inc. provides 1st Time Homebuyer Education classes on a monthly basis.These eight hour classes are held on two evenings from 5-9 p.m.  In order to receive a Certification of Completion the participant must attend the full 8-hour session.  The classes provide information on budgeting and credit, the home loan process, down-payment and closing cost assistance, homeowners and life insurance, home maintenance, protecting your equity, and USDA Rural Development Programs including the Self-Help Program. 

Advanced Registration is required, cost is $20 per person or $30 per household.

NOTE: Our classroom is not suitable for children. Please arrange for child care in your own home during the class.

Financial Education Classes  

This class is about basic Financial Education, and is organized by Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) and Rural Dynamics, Inc. (RDI). Dollars and Sense classes are the next step in financial freedom. These classes offer a toolkit for financial success. The four part series includes:

- Understanding Credit and Credit Reports
- Making Budgeting Works with Your Schedule
- Predatory Lending and Identity Theft Insurance
- Financial Institutions and Taxes

Participants must complete all four parts to graduate the series. Some local partners are offering incentives for participants to graduate, that include partcipation in Individual Development Account (IDA) programs for education/training or homeownership.

Classes are sponsored by the Montana Housing Network and are free to participants.
